"The Peruvian novelist Mario Vargas Llosa has been named the winner of the PEN/Nabokov Award to a living author whose work, either written in or translated into English, is of ''enduring originality and consummate craftsmanship.'' Also to be honored by PEN on May 20 at the Walter Reade Theater in Lincoln Center on are the playwrights Maria Irene Fornes and Tony Kushner, winners of the PEN/Laura Pels Foundation Awards. The inaugural PEN/Robert Bingham Fellowships for Writers, $35,000 annual stipends for two years to gifted young fiction writers, go to Carolyn Cooke (''The Bostons''), Matthew Klam (''Sam the Cat and Other Stories'') and Manil Suri (''The Death of Vishnu'')".
