"THE LYRIC Theatre may have come in for the rough edge of the critics' tongues over its controversial Belfast Festival production of La Chunga - The Woman of our Dreams, which runs until next Saturday, but it is assured of warm words of praise when the Abbey Theatre's excellent production of Hugh Leonard's, A Life, drops by for a week's visit, beginning November 27.

THE LYRIC Theatre may have come in for the rough edge of the critics' tongues over its controversial Belfast Festival production of La Chunga - The Woman of our Dreams, which runs until next Saturday, but it is assured of warm words of praise when the Abbey Theatre's excellent production of Hugh Leonard's, A Life, drops by for a week's visit, beginning November 27. The Lyric itself clocked up a very successful home run and touring hit with the same play a few years ago, under the direction of previous artistic director Robin Midgley. John Hewitt played the central character, Desmond Drumm, who received some shattering news just a few weeks before his long-awaited retirement. Hewitt has done few things better and it remains one of his own favourite roles.
